Meet Kenny and Callie – one of the sweetest couples I’ve worked with. Kenny contacted me a couple weeks ago, telling me that he was coming to NC and wanted to propose to his girlfriend. Could I possibly shoot his proposal? It was a tight time frame, as he was planning to pop the question in less than a week. But I looked at my calendar, did some finagling, and said yes.
And boy, am I glad I did.
Kenny and Callie grew up FOUR HOUSES APART in the same neighborhood. How sweet is that? They were great friends through high school and college, and about a year and a half ago, he asked her out.
“The first time I ever met her I had a crush on her,” he told me, “but I never thought I’d have a chance with her.”
But to his surprise, when he asked her out, she said yes.
And she said yes again when he knelt before her, on a little white bridge in front of a chapel she’d wanted to visit every time she passed it. She’d been vacationing down here since she was born, and always wanted to check it out. So Kenny had a plan. He’d take her to the little church, walk around, and then propose to her, right there.
But when he got in Asheville, things didn’t look hopeful. It rained and rained and rained. And then the day he planned to propose, their formal outfits got lost by FedEx. Undaunted, Kenny still went on. And thankfully, despite the lost outfits, the weather was beautiful.
Callie couldn’t understand why Kenny didn’t want to leave right away – he kept stalling! But then they left and soon pulled up to the little chapel. Hand in hand they explored, and then he led her to the little bridge. He held her hands and spoke softly to her – and then pulled something out of his pocket and knelt down on one knee.
Callie couldn’t contain her smile and though I couldn’t hear because of the bubbling creek, she said yes, and the ring went on her small, slender hand. (It fit, too.)
I might have shed a tear or two – amidst my really large grin – hiding in the bushes across from the bridge. But after a few minutes, I popped out, much to Callie’s surprise and delight – and we explored some more and took their engagement photos.
Kenny and Callie, thank you guys so much for letting me be your photographer! I am so honored to have a small part in your love story and I hope you can look back on these pictures in the future and remember this special time. 🙂
Enjoy a few of my favorites from their shoot!
