Craggy Gardens Asheville Senior Pictures | Samantha

You know that friend who picks thorns out of your feet for you, is ready to catch you when you’re standing on a wobbly fence, and carries a cat out of your portraits even though she’s scared of cats? The friend who emails you just to tell you how much she appreciates you, and who smiles and supports you when you raise a hair-brained idea? That’s Sam. She’s the friend who says yes to you rag-curling her hair at 9:30 at night, and sings soprano to your tenor/baritone counterpart. Maybe you haven’t had these exact experiences (they’re pretty unique), but you know who I’m talking about. Everyone has that friend, and if they don’t, they need one like Sam. It’s those friends who end up in your bridal party; those friends who last for life.

Samantha and I became instant friends when she tagged along to help with Caroline’s senior portraits this spring. After I was done shooting Carrie, I turned to Sam and asked her if I could shoot her portraits, and she very quickly replied YES! We were in choir together for the rest of the spring and got to know each other better during that time. And it’s a true fact that I really did rag-curl her hair, in the ladies’ room at the auditorium on dress rehearsal night. And I actually did sing tenor-baritone to her soprano and Carrie’s alto. But that’s a long story.

Sam is a ballerina, or was, until she had to stop because of back problems. I knew that we would have to do her senior portraits at golden hour to complement her outfits! Craggy Gardens turned out to be perfect, despite hiking through snow and ice (who knew, at this time of year?)! I couldn’t have envisioned a prettier shoot. And I actually think the snow on the trail made for some very enchanting, fairy-like portraits! Samantha, girl, you are so beautiful and so graceful and I had so much fun at your portrait session!
